Working Mothers Have Obese Children: Study

As per a new research carried out ASSOCHAM Development Foundation, the vast majority of working mothers delivers unhealthy child.

This whole issue came to prominence after the researchers monitored 2,000 students from 25 schools in different cities, where large cities like Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Pune, Chennai and Mumbai.

In the research they found that out of these 2,000 students, almost 56% had of working mothers, their kids undergo chronic conditions such as obesity. But only 28% of children facing these health problems due to some other unhealthy conditions, while only 16% of children who had mothers at home were found to be exposed to unhealthy problems.

Giving a brief on the harmful effects of obesity health experts said that childhood obesity will certainly lead to obesity-related chronic conditions, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes and liver problems life later on.

The research also found that all these children, whose mothers work for a full day, tend to eat junk food and as a result they do not consume fruits and vegetables which are necessary.

Meanwhile, reports also said that rather than playing outdoor games, all these children were in their environments inside playing computer games or watching television.

Moreover, it is more surprising is that while doing these kind of indoor activities they continued to eat more junk food.

The reports also only due to the pressures of additional jobs, working mothers do not cook healthy meals for the family and, surprisingly, most working parents have spent more money on consumption these junk foods.

Share his views on this issue, the Chairman of Health Committee, BK Rao, said: "A healthy diet plays a preventive role in nutrition-related diseases such as overweight, obesity and dental problems and osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease and diabetes later in life."
