In general, prostate cancer affects vast majority of men. It is considered one of the worst kinds of cancer in men. Technical advances have helped us find a cure for cancer. But unfortunately, no cure has been found to fight against the strains of prostate cancer in its advanced stage. Therefore, with continued treatment of prostate cancer at an advanced stage, researchers at Sheffield University are working to create a device by using magnetic force. Researchers believe that the magnetic particles help white blood cells to stop cancerous tumors.
It was reported by researchers that cancer tumors spread quickly due to movement of white blood cells that can detect and kill them. It is thought that the injection of magnetic particles in the human body could accelerate the movement of white blood cells.
Before treatment is available for doctors to recommend to patients, it will go through several clinical trials over a period of five years. It is hoped that efforts would help scientists in the treatment of patients with advanced prostate cancer.
Previously, scientists have conducted various studies to make improvements in the manner in which prostate cancer is treated. Dr. Jay Richardson, the chief scientist, hopes that "... with magnetic means, we are able to refine this method to achieve that macrophages and provide therapy for prostate cancer cells only, leaving healthy cells undamaged".
